What Are Rules Of Engagement In A Street Attack

Uncategorized Jun 05, 2023

Are there rules of engagement in the street attack, and if there are, what are they, some people think that the rules of engagement should be followed during a street attack, but I have no idea what that would mean.

If somebody told me, there were such thing as rules of engagement, and I would have to give it a definition, I could do that. I know the rules of weapons you can carry, and abide by the rules, if they are realistic. For instance, if you were allowed to carry a knife, but it couldn't be longer than 7 inches, make sure the knives that you were carrying are not over 7 inches. If there is a Rule that you cannot have more than 15 rounds in your semi, automatic, pistol, that you were allowed to carry, Then carry 15 rounds. But if the rules are, you cannot carry a knife, or a gun, disregard those rules, because it cannot apply to you. My point is breaking little rules could cost you in court, but abiding by stupid rules will end you up, not in court, but in the cemetery.

I hear a lot of silly, unrealistic rules of self defense, the worst one being "never strike first". That one is probably the stupidest one by far, but there are also some pretty stupid ones such as; never engage with an attacker, wait until the authorities arrive. And once the attacker is on the ground, you are safe, and you were not to strike anymore. Gun free zones. I am. If your attacker does not have a weapon, you cannot use one. Those are some very silly, dangerous rules that should not ever be abided.

Now that I told you what I don't think the rules of engagement are, let me tell you the very short list of what I consider the true realistic rules of engagement in a street attack. I feel everything revolves around stopping the threat. In fact, I think that is the true rule of engagement; everything else is just small details. Because once you get attacked, the only thing you should be thinking about is stopping the threat. If you're thinking of other "rules" it will cause hesitation in your defense, and that could cost you and your family your lives. The second you feel imminent danger, the only one thing you should be thinking about is stopping the threat, staying alive, and going home to your family. There really should be no other rule of engagement.

Some people might think it should be a rule of engagement, that if you were attacked, you can only shoot to injure, never shoot to kill. In other words, try to hit some very fast moving limbs? That's one of the stupidest things I've ever heard, but at the end of the day, if you abide by the only true rule of engagement, stopping the threat, if you hit them in the legs, and that was the only place to stop the threat, I might agree with you, but to be honest, the best place to stop a physical threat would be center mass, and that has been proven too many times to even argue with. Even I can't think of an argument against having "stopping the threat" be the only rule of engagement, like I said, everything else has to lead to that or else it is not a Effective Self Defense.

So, basically, if a rule on the size of a knife, or the carrying capacity of a gun is in line, with being able to stop the threat, then I see no reason to not abide by those rules, however, if they in friend, John, or take away from your God-given right to defend Your life and your family's life then they are not to be followed. If you're not able to stop the threat because of some silly politically-based rules, which will make it ineffective and inefficient in protecting your life and your families life, that is not self-defense, and it must not be followed. You have to be able to protect yourself and your family at all costs.

And while the opposition to my idea of limiting the rules of engagement to one, stopping the threat is that I will end up in prison. Without using clichés, I would very pragmatically say I would rather end up in prison, then in a nursing home with a tracheostomy in a feeding tube, because I was abiding by the rules set forced by the government when I am being physically attacked. I could think oh well, at least I'm not in prison, but realistically, I think we would all rather be in prison than in a nursing home with a tracheostomy and a feeding tube being turned every four hours to minimize bedsores with no chance of ever recovering, standing up, or even moving on my own. At least, if I end up in prison, I will get out soon, and if not, I could see my family once a week, as opposed to, never, if I'm in a coma. And to add insult to injury, many times, even if you followed every single rule, and you were much less effective because of it, you could still end up in prison, and getting sued.

At the end of the day, when the smoke clears, how do you think you're safe from prosecution or even civil litigation you might have an aggressive district attorney, the things you overstepped your self-defense, boundaries, and you're looking at murder or manslaughter. Either way, even though you invited by every single rules of engagement and government law. There is a lot of gray area in a self-defense situation, and you might have an overzealous district attorney and an under zealous defense lawyer, now you're on your way to prison, and if that's not bad enough while you're sitting in prison and your wife is spending a lot of time being comforted by your very single, and very handsome next-door neighbor, you just found out along with the criminal prosecution, you were also being sued for everything you own, including your home, so your wife and kids move in with their new dad, next door.

And always remember stopping the threat is the only true rule of engagement; anything that takes away from that must be ignored, but anything enhancing that or allowing that can be taken into consideration. Never do anything that will detour your right to stop the threat.
