Have you ever heard the term doing everything wrong, right? Basically, it means that people with "bad" technique but still do very well at their sport. Like a runner that doesn't have a good running form, but always crosses the finish line 1st, or a weight lifter that doesn't have good lifting form, but can still lift the heaviest weights. Basically, they're winning with faulty technique. When you watch people like that it's frustrating because if you're doing that sport, you've been taught and yelled at and you've trained so hard to have a good technique, but some people come along and throw proper technique out the window, and they just win with great power, speed, or just athleticism.
There is a lot of that in combat sports, especially combat sports where there is striking involved. Sometimes a fighter seems to be doing everything wrong, but he still wins. For instance, if a fighter keeps his hands low, yet you never see him getting hit. That is very frustrating, especially since you get yelled at so much to keep your hands up , yet some people make it look so effortless, keeping their hands down yet not getting hit for whatever reason. Even though there are people in other sports that always seem to win with faulty technique, striking sports, or a different animal because even if they're compensating for their faulty technique with their athleticism or speed or height, they will get exposed. The stakes are much higher than these other sports. Because they will get knocked out. That is the problem with relying on speed, height, or athleticism and neglecting proper form. It's just a matter of time when height will be overcome by lack of distance, speed will be conquered by timing, and athleticism will be beaten with strategy.
Don't get me wrong, having those advantages are very fair, and very helpful in winning, however, having poor form, or using faulty technique, while can be overcome with speed, athleticism, or size it will be much harder to continue your winning ways when you start climbing the ladder of elite competition. The best fighters in the world are the best fighters in the world because they know how to overcome adversity and win. If you do, have faulty technique, or form, they will use their experience, fighting spirit, and fight IQ to take a vantage of your poor form. Having good form and technique is always an advantage, even if you are the biggest, fastest, and most athletic athlete in your sport, you will only be better with good technique, having poor technique will never be an advantage.
Basically, what I'm saying is if you have great athleticism, you are already at a great advantage, by using faulty technique, you are ensuring that you will not reach your full potential. The technique and form are there for a purpose, and by not adhering to that, that downfall will be exposed. If you have great athleticism to begin with, learn and practice with proper form and technique, even if you feel you are so superior that you can get away with not using it. And on the other side of that coin, if you don't have natural athletic abilities, realize that many of the worlds best athletes are there because of their hard work, and mastering the basics, and adhering to the proper forms and techniques of their given sport.
Stick to the basics guys, do not fear, or try to disguise repetition, embrace repetition and realize that repetition is the key to mastery.
